Governor Willie Obiano Threaten :Ex Councillors With Court Actions
THE 326 councillors in Anambra State, who were recently disengaged by the state government, have threatened
to drag Governor Willie Obiano to court over their unpayed entitlements amounting to about N3.6 billion.
It was gathered that each of the councillors was entitled to a total package of about N8 million, but were paid only N500,000 at the end of their tenure. Since leaving office, they had made several attempts to prevail on the state government to pay them, to no avail. Worried by the development, the councillors met at the Cana House, Awka, where they resolved to drag the Anambra State government to court over the matter.
They also threatened to petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over what they described as the improper use of local council funds in the state. About 250 former councillors, who attended the meeting, regretted that despite their assurances of loyalty to their party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and the state government, nothing had been done to assuage their demands and they therefore resolved that henceforth, they would regard anyone opposed to the actualisation of their demand as an enemy.
It was also gathered yesterday that apart from the councillors, some former local government chairmen in the last dispensation were also not happy with the state government over the usage of local government funds. Meanwhile, All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state has thrown its weight behind the former councillors.

The state Secretary of APC, Mr. Chukwuma Agufugo, who made a surprise appearance during the former councillors’ meeting, regretted the shoddy manner they were treated by the state government. He said that APC appreciated the worth of the councillors and had therefore decided to assure them of the party’s support in their battle.
