Shell Nigeria refuses to confirm Militant attack Shell Nigeria refused Monday to confirm a report by the Niger Delta Avengers militant group that it has bombed the company’s Bonny oil pipeline and again crippled its exports. Friday night’s bombing breaks a month-long ceasefire between militant groups and the government and comes days after repairs from an earlier attack had allowed Shell’s exports to resume. Shell spokesman Precious Okolobo said only that “We cannot comment on the reported incident.” A contractor working at Bonny terminal said production has fallen significantly since Saturday. He spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of losing his contract. The Niger Delta Avengers said the attack “has brought down oil production activities at the Bonny 48 inches crude oil export line,” which can export 600,000 barrels of oil a day. Source :Today

Opesanwo has set aside and vacated the interim order of forfeiture by which the house and property of one Mr. Jonathan Udeagbala, was purported to have been attached by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in August 2012. In May, Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, was charged to court for allegedly dealing in property forfeited by order of court to the Federal Government through the EFCC. Adegboruwa had maintained that he committed no offence in law, but only assisted two business partners to broker a settlement arising from a telecoms transaction and that the EFCC was only taking advantage of the anti-corruption war of the Buhari regime to persecute him “because of his constant criticism of the Buhari administration and in particular because of his involvement as defence counsel in the case of Chief Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo)...

EXCLUSIVE: Presidency receives petitions by unjustly retired army officers to Buhari

Image
EXCLUSIVE: Presidency receives petitions by unjustly retired army officers to Buhari By Hassan Adebayo The Presidency has received the appeals of 22 senior officers of the Nigerian Army who complained they were wrongfully laid off, PREMIUM TIMES can confirm authoritatively. In our series of investigations on how the Army compulsorily retired 38 officers, some unjustly, we reported the riddle surrounding the government’s handling of the letters of the affected officers who sought redress. The affected officers later complained that the Minister of Defence was blocking their appeals from reaching the President, a claim defence officials denied. Mr. Buhari’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina, also declined comment on the letters. However, our investigation revealed the Chief of Defence Staff, Abayomi Olonisakin, handed the appeals of the aggrieved officers to President Muhammadu Buhari in compliance with the revised version of Paragraph 09.02(e) of the Harmonised Terms and Condi...

Arsenal trash Chelsea

Image
During the first-half performance by Arsenal saw them beat London rivals Chelsea 3-0 at the Emirates and moved to the third in the Premier League table. The Gunners delivered an early sign of intent when Alexis Sanchez saw an early 20-yard strike stopped by Thibaut Courtois. And they were 2-0 up after 14 minutes as Chelsea’s defence suffered a nightmare afternoon. With 12 minutes played, Gary Cahill dawdled on the ball before making a mess of his backpass and allowing Sanchez to race through and chip coolly beyond Courtois. Two minutes later, the Gunners doubled their lead with a superbly-worked goal as Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi set up Hector Bellerin to cross for a Theo Walcott tap-in. A shell-shocked Chelsea offered little in response apart from a low Willian effort that whistled just wide of the far post and were three goals adrift with five minutes of the first half still to play. The goal began on the edge of the Arsenal penalty area as Ozil turned past a couple of chal...
